In an annual M3 Global Research survey, 2,932 healthcare professionals were asked: "Which area do you think healthcare innovations will have the biggest impact on in 2026?"
The 2026 findings reveal a broader shift in how healthcare professionals define innovation - AI efficiencies are valued when increasing time for patient care, but impractical technological advancements are not so welcome.
AI-enabled diagnostic confidence is clearly identified as a key trend this year, and the language used by respondents suggests a strong human-centric push as well, looking to embrace practical, operational AI rather than gimmicks and hype, and prioritising tools that help restore time with patients rather than adding additional layers of complexity.
Alongside this, personalised healthcare remains one of the most influential trends identified in the research, with respondents highlighting the growing impact of genomics, precision medicine, and targeted therapies in improving patient outcomes.
But there is also growing concern around access to care, workforce strain, and clinician wellbeing, reflecting increasing pressure on healthcare professionals worldwide. While technology can improve operational inefficiencies, the results also emphasized that improving access to care requires more than technology alone. Moving through 2026 and into the future, it's likely that sustainable healthcare delivery will depend on broader system-level improvements as well as digital innovation.
The landscape is evolving rapidly, and as these innovations continue to shape the industry, the ultimate goal remains the same: improving patient outcomes and enhancing the quality of care.
